Asia is home to Mount Everest, the world’s highest mountain. The top 100 highest mountains in the world are all found in Asia, did you know that? To know more about 56 mountains in US, you need to check this article!

Technical climbs are common on many of Asia’s highest peaks. Climbers will find the altitude alone to be a challenge. An inexperienced climber would certainly find them too challenging.

Mountain climbing may still be relatively new in many Asian countries. Finding out about them can be quite difficult. It may also be difficult to access certain areas due to a lack of infrastructure.

Therefore, we have created this resource. In it, beginners can try 74 of the highest peaks in Europe.

There are few mountains in Asia that are high enough for beginners. The map shows which Asian countries have the highest mountains.

Here is what we need to know before we begin

Before we get to the list, a few things to note. In order to understand some of this list’s terminology, you will need to understand a bit about it first. Similarly, you may have seen this terminology in another source.

    Thousanders

Typically, the elevations of mountains in Asia are measured in meters.

Eight-thousanders are the highest mountains. This means that they are at least 8,000 meters (26,427 feet) above sea level.

    • An eight-thousander is at least 8,000 meters (26,427 feet) tall
    • Seven-thousanders: at least 7,000 meters (22,966 feet) but not more than 8,000 meters
    • Six-thousander: a height of at least 6,000 meters (19,685 feet) and less than 7,000 meters
    • Five-thousanders: they are generally more than 5,000 meters (16,404 feet) but less than 6,000 meters
    • Four-thousanders: 4,000 meters (13,123 feet) but fewer than 5,000 meters (16,404 feet).
    • Three-thousander: at least 3,000 m (9,842 ft) but less than 4,000 m
    • Two-Thousander: Over 2,000 meters (6,561 feet) but under 3,000 meters
    • A one-thousander is at least 1,000 meters (3,281 feet) but less than 2,000 meters tall

    What Is Summitpost?

There is a SummitPost link listed for each climb below.

SummitPost is an online resource that provides climbing information for mountains around the world.

An online community of climbers provides the information. You can use it as a starting point to learn more about mountains and climbs. It should be noted, however, that not all the information tracked is complete or up-to-date. You should do additional research before your climbs.

As this is a community-driven project, it would be great if you could highlight any errors or outdated information. Please do so in the comments section of the respective pages.

    Rating Systems

Numerous rating systems exist for grading the difficulty of a climb.

This list uses a few grading systems:

    • YDS (Yosemite Decimal System)
      • In the US, this grading system is widely used to rate the difficulty of climbs.
      • Climbs in classes 1 and 2 are suitable for beginners.
      • As a beginner, you can attempt climbs of Class 3 with a guide.
International French Adjectival System (IFAS) or Alpine Rating System
      • Climbers in alpine conditions use this grading system in Europe.
      • It is possible to climb F and PD routes for beginners if there is no snow or ice on the routes.
      • With a guide, beginners can attempt F and PD climbs in snowy or icy terrain.

    The Russian system of grading

    • This is the grading system mainly used by countries in the post-Soviet space.
    • Climbs in grade 1A are suitable for beginners.
    • With a guide or after some lessons or training, beginners can climb grades 1B, 2A, and 2B.

    Elevation vs Elevation Gain

As you can see, the list below includes both the elevation and elevation gained.

Elevation refers to the height of the summit above sea level.

Gained elevation is the difference in height between the start of the trail and the summit.

The elevation gained may differ between routes. Depending on where the trailheads are located on the mountains, this can vary.

Climbing Season and Best Time to Climb

Listed below are a few climbs and the best climbing time for each.

Climbers should stick to the duration listed under the best time to climb.

Climbing is still possible for the rest of the year, but it is more suitable for experienced climbers.

In addition to harsher conditions, the climb’s difficulty rating increases. Often, non-technical climbs turn into technical ones.

Here is a list of beginner mountains in Asia

massif Mount Everest Himalayas Nepal | 74 Best Mountains To Climb In Asia For Beginners (50 Countries)

Mount Everest is also the highest mountain in Asia and the highest mountain in the world. Mount Everest has a height of 8,850 meters (29,035 feet).

    India

Eight-thousander Kangchenjunga (8,586 meters / 28,169 feet) is the highest peak in India and the mountain is also the third highest in the world.

Nearly 40 of India’s seven-thousanders are bigger than its eight-thousander.

The highest peaks in India are difficult to reach for beginner climbers due to their high altitudes.

You can climb some of these popular peaks as a beginner:

    1. Stok Kangri

    • This is one of the toughest climbs on this list. High-altitude mountaineering is introduced well in this book.
    • Although the easiest route is not technical, it is a glacier climb at high altitude. You should climb with a guide if you are a beginner.

    Bhutan

You will find it difficult and expensive to visit Bhutan. Visitors are required to pay a “daily fee” and the government limits the number of tourists per year.

Bhutan government has also banned climbing peaks above 6,000 meters (20,000 feet) since the 1990s. The locals believe that the mountains are inhabited by spirits.

In order to climb the lower peaks, you will need to arrange all activities with a local agent.

    Bhutan’s highest peak is a seven-thousander.

Bhutan’s highest peak is Gangkhar Puensum (7,570 meters / 24,840 feet). The highest mountain that has never been climbed is possibly this one. Until the ban, climbers had to contend with treacherous conditions. A lack of well-documented maps was also present.

Here are some of the more popular mountains you can climb in Bhutan:

    10. Jhomolhari Trek

    • Bhutan’s most popular trek.

    • Third highest peak in Georgia and only five-thousander that can be scaled by beginners.

    Iraq

Three-thousanders are the highest peaks in Iraq.
